No betting “ads” value to Sydney Swans games
AFL fans are set to enjoy more games free of betting advertisements as the Sydney Swans extend their partnership under the NSW Government’s Reclaim the Game initiative.
Minister for Hospitality and Racing, Kevin Anderson said he was delighted the Sydney Swans had pledged to renew their partnership with The NSW Government’s GambleAware Reclaim the Game initiative, to turn down sports betting sponsorship and raise awareness of gambling harm.
“The Swans have already partnered with us for two seasons, and we are excited to extend the partnership for two more years,” Mr Anderson said.
“Excitingly the partnership will also cover the Swan’s AFLW team bringing the program to a new audience and even more fans.”
Under the initiative, the Swans have committed to eliminating sports betting advertising within the stadium at their men’s and women’s home matches.
The club will also commit to promoting advertisements highlighting the pitfalls of sports betting along with educating fans, players and staff about the risks associated with gambling.
The Sydney Swans fanbase have shown immense support for the partnership since inception, with 7 out of 10 Swans fans believing gambling should not be a part of experiencing sport and 9 out of 10 Swans fans agreeing that there is too much gambling advertising.
Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley said the club is excited to continue working with GambleAware, which is extending its partnership to Sydney’s women’s team.
“As a football club we believe it is extremely important to provide education to staff, players and fans about the risks associated with gambling. We’re thrilled to be extending our partnership with GambleAware to continue our important work in this area,” Harley said.
“This partnership supports our ambition to provide a more family-friendly sporting experience at our home matches for both our men’s and women’s teams.”
Reclaim the Game is proud to have partnerships across the five largest sporting codes in the country including AFL, A-League, Cricket, NBL and NRL.
